Podcasts Are the New Novelists?

So do you think  some of the new podcasters are the new novelists?

Everyone seems to have a podcast these days, are they replacing books in a steady creep? They all tell stories just in a different format.

Hmmm... I think it's a little more nuanced than that. I don't think that podcasters are trying to replace novelists.

Instead, think of podcasts as a modern evolution of radio plays. Or going back even further, it's the modern equivalent of the town storyteller, or better yet, the traveling storyteller.

Think of us as a society that's devolving. We're too lazy to read. We just want someone to tell us the story. Or think of it as retro. We're tired of listening to the same songs and the same talk radio, so instead, we listen to podcasts on our long commutes.

Then again, this is a knee jerk reaction to your idea. You could be right :)
