How Hard Could It Be?

Can someone explain to me-(in laymans terms, please)-why our cable company can't offer us a package with, say, 10 channels of OUR choosing for a reasonable price?

I don't want 1000 channels.............. I don't want 385 channels.....I don't want 75 channels........... I don't even want 23 channels.

I want the NBC, CBS, ABC, SC-ETV, NC-ETV, FOX, A&E, Discovery Channel, HGTV and The Sci-Fi Channel.

Is that too much to ask for, for Gods sake?

WHY can I not get what I WANT- and ONLY what I want?

Because...

Expanded basic channels are broadcast 'in the clear' with no encryption.

This means it isn't possible to broadcast just one or two channels without a set-top box, set to de-crypt only the channels you pay for.

In order to do this, every cable customer would have to have digital, which is more expensive to maintain and run.

In short, the infrastructure isn't in place, and it would be too expensive...at least until digital becomes the standard

I agree too Sunny. It's no better up here and I have satillete. It's like soak all the money they can out of you mentality without costumer serivce or getting what we want.

You go Girl! And I will check out the Blog.

Amen.

I wonder if one day you can pay per show. I mean, beyond the basic programming. If you want to watch The Sopranos, you can, without having to pay for all of HBO. Then again, that would be very complicated wouldn't it?

While I am a little wary of the WB/UPN one channel love fest coming up, if HBO and Showtime merged into one, I'd be happy.

hey, politicians are trying to get you what you want... though if a cable company does that, about 100 cable channels will never be watched again. heh.

But if they didn't give us all those channels, how would we ever find all those great home shopping deals??
